As fall settles into Columbia, local organizations are gearing up with opportunities for kids, families, and community members to get involved.
The Columbia Boys Athletic Association (CBAA) has announced that winter sports registration is now open, with registration closing on November 8. Families interested in winter athletics are encouraged to sign up early and take advantage of several free opportunities being offered before the season gets underway.
One of those opportunities is a free wrestling clinic for boys and girls ages 5-12. The clinic will be held October 17 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Columbia Armory, 221 Walnut Street. The event is designed to introduce young athletes to the sport of wrestling in a fun and welcoming environment. Organizers note that participants must register online before attending.
The Armory is also hosting free basketball open gym sessions every Wednesday for students in grades 3-6. Girls can participate from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., followed by boys from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Registration for open gym can be completed in person.
Elsewhere in the community, the Columbia High School Class of 2027 is hosting a Trunk-or-Treat and Chicken BBQ fundraiser, providing families with a chance to enjoy some Halloween fun while supporting the class’s future activities and events. Community members are encouraged to come out, bring the kids, and support the students.

The Columbia Parent Teacher Partnership is also raising funds through a silent auction that includes a $25 Weis Markets gift card and dinner for two at Chipotle. Those interested in participating can find details and bidding information on the Columbia Parent Teacher Partnership Facebook page.
Whether you’re looking to get your child involved in sports, support local students, or simply enjoy a fun community event, there are plenty of reasons to mark your calendar this season1
