Borough Considers Sale of Ridge Avenue Property for Economic Development

A major economic development proposal is headed before Borough Council as officials consider authorizing negotiations to sell the eastern parcel of the former airport property at 1110 Ridge Avenue to the Columbia Economic Development Corporation (CEDC).

Documents included in the agenda outline a proposed purchase price of $800,000 for the parcel. The agreement would provide the CEDC with a lengthy due diligence period to evaluate development opportunities and pursue future projects.

The property has been the focus of community discussion throughout the year because of its potential for economic growth and its strategic location within the borough. The proposed agreement would allow the CEDC to conduct inspections, environmental reviews, and development planning before finalizing the transaction.

Supporters of the proposal argue that placing the land into the hands of an economic development organization could increase opportunities for future investment, job creation, and tax revenue. Opponents have raised questions about long-term use and public oversight. Those discussions are expected to continue as negotiations move forward.
