A Message About Community Standards and Recent Bans

(Columbia, Pa) By: Jesse Sweigart & Kimberly Robinson

Over the past several days, we have had to deal with several incidents involving inappropriate and unacceptable comments posted on our Facebook platform. These comments included racist remarks, personal attacks, and other statements that clearly violated the standards of respect and decency we expect from members of our community.

When these incidents were discovered, screenshots of the comments were immediately preserved, and the individuals responsible were blocked and banned from participating on our platform.

We understand that some of these individuals may attempt to claim that their removal is a violation of their freedom of speech. That is simply not the case. Our platform is privately operated, and while we welcome open discussion, differing opinions, and respectful debate, we do not tolerate racism, hate speech, harassment, threats, or abusive behavior directed at any individual or group.

Freedom of speech does not entitle anyone to use our platform as a place to spread hatred, engage in personal attacks, or create a hostile environment for others. We reserve the right to remove content and restrict access to anyone who violates our community standards.

Our moderation decisions are not based on political views, personal opinions, or disagreements. They are based solely on behavior. If a user conducts themselves respectfully, they are welcome to participate. If they choose to engage in racist remarks, harassment, threats, or other inappropriate conduct, they should expect immediate action.

In serious cases, particularly those involving threats, criminal behavior, or potentially unlawful content, we may document and report the matter to the appropriate law enforcement authorities. The safety and well-being of our community will always take priority.

The overwhelming majority of our community members interact respectfully and contribute positively to discussions. We appreciate those individuals and thank them for helping create a welcoming environment for everyone.

Our expectations are simple: treat others with respect, use common sense, and engage in civil conversation. Disagreement is acceptable. Name-calling, racism, harassment, and abusive conduct are not.

Moving forward, our zero-tolerance policy will continue to be enforced consistently. We are committed to maintaining a community where people can participate without being subjected to hateful or abusive behavior.

Thank you to everyone who helps keep this community respectful, welcoming, and productive.
