If there’s one thing last week’s Columbia Career Fair proved, it’s that employers are hiring and they’re eager to meet local talent.

Held at the Historic Columbia Market House, the event brought together businesses, organizations, and job seekers from across the area for a day focused on opportunity. From healthcare and education to manufacturing, construction, and hospitality, attendees had the chance to speak directly with employers and learn about open positions that could lead to long-term careers.

What stood out wasn’t just the number of companies represented. It was the variety of jobs available. Whether someone is looking for an entry-level position, a career change, flexible hours, or a skilled trade, there were opportunities for nearly every experience level.

In healthcare, Arcadia Home Care and Independent Living Services highlighted caregiver positions with flexible scheduling, while Our Home of Hope is seeking Med Techs and aides. These roles offer a chance for individuals to make a direct impact in the lives of others while building a rewarding career.

Manufacturing and skilled trades continue to provide some of the area’s strongest earning potential. ASC Engineered Solutions is hiring millwrights, electricians, and machine setup and repair personnel, while Kleen Rite is looking for applicants for positions ranging from staff accountant to CDL-A Hazmat driver.

Those interested in working with communities and housing services can find opportunities through HDC Mid-Atlantic, which is recruiting for a variety of roles including maintenance technicians, resident service coordinators, and community assistants.

The hospitality and food service industry also remains in need of workers. Sodexo is hiring for numerous positions, including cashiers, grill cooks, dishwashers, food prep helpers, dining room attendants, and management roles.

For those looking to work in education, Substitute Teacher Service, Inc. continues to seek substitute teachers, aides, and personal care assistants. With substitute teaching positions paying between $135 and $220 per day, these jobs offer flexible schedules while supporting local students.

Other employers at the fair included Casella Waste Management & Recycling Services and Evercor Facility Management, both of which are actively recruiting for a wide range of labor, driving, landscaping, construction, and equipment operation positions.

While the event itself may be over, the need for workers certainly isn’t.

Many employers left the fair still looking to fill open positions, a reminder that there are real opportunities available right now for residents willing to take the next step. Whether someone is entering the workforce for the first time, returning after time away, or considering a career change, now may be the perfect time to explore what local employers have to offer.

The success of the event was made possible through the support of the Columbia Economic Development Corporation, Celebrate Columbia, and the Stephen Smith Community Development and Multicultural Center, along with the many employers and job seekers who participated.

The message from the day was simple: Columbia has jobs, Columbia has opportunity, and many employers are still waiting to hear from qualified applicants.
