COLUMBIA, Pa. — State Rep. Brett Miller, who represents the 41st Legislative District and maintains a district office in Columbia, voted in favor of Pennsylvania’s newly approved 2026-27 state budget, citing significant benefits for local schools, public safety, and infrastructure. According to Miller, one of the biggest winners in the budget package is public education, with school districts across the Commonwealth receiving funding increases through Pennsylvania’s updated education funding formula.
In his weekly legislative update released Friday, July 17, Miller said he supported the $50.8 billion spending plan despite concerns about overall spending levels because it delivers key investments without raising taxes. The budget passed with bipartisan support in the House and Senate.
“Education was also funded at historic levels to meet the needs of students across the Commonwealth,” Miller wrote, noting that schools throughout the 41st District will receive additional funding through the state’s education allocation formula.
For Columbia Borough School District, additional state funding can have a substantial local impact. Last year, the district received $14.4 million in state funding, an increase of more than $828,000 over the previous year, including a significant boost through Pennsylvania’s Ready to Learn Block Grant program.
The newly approved 2026-27 budget continues Pennsylvania’s investment in public education, including:
- An additional $58 million for Basic Education Funding.
- A $565 million increase in Ready to Learn funding.
- A $55 million increase in Special Education funding.
- Additional investments in career and technical education programs.
Miller highlighted several reasons he voted for the budget, including:
- No state tax increases.
- Increased funding for local schools.
- Additional support for law enforcement.
- Investments in transportation infrastructure.
- Preservation of Pennsylvania’s Rainy Day Fund, which continues to support the state’s financial stability.
The Columbia Borough School District has long advocated for greater state investment in education. During previous budget discussions, district leaders noted that adequate state funding helps support classroom programs while reducing pressure on local property taxpayers.
Miller indicated he plans to provide more detailed breakdowns of school funding allocations and other budget impacts in future legislative updates.
