COLUMBIA, PA – Columbia Borough Council formally acknowledged the resignation of Borough Manager Jack Brommer during Monday night’s council meeting, marking a significant leadership transition for the borough.
Brommer’s resignation will take effect on November 13, 2026. Council President Eric Kauffman described the news as unexpected, noting that borough leadership had been making progress on financial stability, administrative organization, and long-term planning.
Officials credited Brommer with helping guide the borough through a challenging period while working to strengthen internal operations and improve communication between departments. Council members noted that his experience in local government and public safety proved valuable as Columbia worked through staffing and financial challenges.
The announcement prompted extensive discussion from both council members and residents. Some speakers voiced concerns about continued turnover among borough leadership positions, while others praised Brommer for his service and dedication to the community.
Mayor Leo Lutz offered strong support for Brommer, highlighting the challenges municipal leaders face in today’s environment. Lutz said professional administrators often work under intense public scrutiny and argued that retaining experienced public servants is becoming increasingly difficult for many communities.
Borough officials have not yet announced a plan for selecting Brommer’s successor, but council is expected to begin discussions on the transition process in the coming weeks.
With all departures of employees in recent years, council should have an INDEPENDENT firm come in and do an efficiency study and see what is going on
