COLUMBIA, Pa. — Emergency responders rescued a man Monday morning after reports that he entered the Susquehanna River from the Veterans Memorial Bridge. According to reports, emergency units were dispatched to Columbia River Park shortly after 10 a.m. after witnesses observed the individual in the water beneath the bridge. The man was later rescued and transported by ambulance.
One eyewitness, Columbia resident Ricky Kamanu, later described the incident in a public Facebook post, writing that he attempted to convince the man not to jump.
“I told the man it’s not worth it. But he jumped,” Kamanu wrote.
Kamanu said the experience was difficult to witness and brought back memories of a personal family loss. He also expressed gratitude that the man survived the incident and offered prayers for his recovery.
