Columbia’s Police Pension Fund Nears Full Funding

COLUMBIA, PA – Columbia officials announced significant progress in the financial health of the borough’s police pension fund.

During the meeting, council members noted that the pension plan is now approximately 95 percent funded, representing a dramatic improvement from previous years when funding levels were substantially lower.

Officials recalled that the pension system once faced serious funding challenges and required years of financial discipline to improve its status.

Council also acknowledged the minimum municipal obligation for the police pension plan in 2027, which will total approximately $597,399. The borough’s non-uniform employee pension plan will require an estimated contribution of $75,272.

Officials described the pension fund’s improved status as an important financial achievement that strengthens the borough’s long-term fiscal outlook.

As preparation for the 2027 budget continues, maintaining responsible pension funding remains a major priority for borough leadership and council members.
