COLUMBIA, PA – Columbia Borough is pursuing additional funding to support a major rehabilitation project at the Columbia Crossing River Trails Center.
Council approved a resolution authorizing the submission of a $250,000 Community Development Block Grant application that would help finance needed repairs and improvements to the popular riverfront facility.
The request comes shortly after the borough received confirmation that it had been awarded a $300,000 Local Share Account grant for the same project.
Officials explained that structural deterioration has been discovered in portions of the building due to long-term moisture intrusion. Support beams and columns exposed to rainwater have suffered damage over time and require replacement.
The rehabilitation project could also include accessibility improvements and modifications that would allow the facility to host larger educational and community events.
Council members emphasized that their goal is to complete the project through grants whenever possible rather than placing additional burdens on local taxpayers.
If additional funding is secured, borough leaders believe the entire project could proceed without requiring a significant contribution from local funds.
