COLUMBIA, Pa. — A tragic accident in Columbia Borough on Sunday morning claimed the lives of two local residents and left their granddaughter seriously injured.
The Lancaster County Coroner’s Office identified the victims as , Eric Lutz 74, and Donna Lutz both of Columbia. The couple died from injuries sustained when they were struck by a pickup truck while crossing the street with their granddaughter.
According to police, the crash occurred at approximately 11:45 a.m. at the intersection of Third and Chestnut streets. Emergency responders arrived to find three pedestrians who had been struck by a Dodge Ram pickup truck.
All three victims were transported to a local hospital. The couple succumbed to their injuries. Their granddaughter suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to another hospital for treatment. Authorities have not released an update on her condition.
Investigators said the driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with law enforcement. No charges have been announced as the investigation continues.
Police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash and has not yet spoken with investigators to contact the Columbia Borough Police Department.
